Number 1 for sustainability!

Awarded in 2019 People and Planet University League

We’re proud to have been awarded the number one position in the 2019 sustainability league table for all UK universities!

(People and Planet league 2019)

The People and Planet league table is student-led and began in 2007. It is the only comprehensive and independent ranking of UK universities on their environmental and ethical performance.

In the 2019 league the University of Gloucestershire scored 80.6% overall and maintains the First Class award status and Top 10 position it has achieved in every People and Planet League.

Our score card shows how we were assessed in all areas and the University has increased its 2019 score for staff development, ethical investment, sustainable food, student engagement, carbon reduction, waste and recycling, and water reduction

“Our students care deeply about sustainability and environmental issues. The SU are delighted that the University has been recognised for leading the way in supporting students’ development and understanding of sustainability, empowering them to develop solutions both in and out of their curriculum.”

(Students Union President Imaani Mitchell)

This is a really special achievement for us on this critically important agenda, especially as the changes have been led by students and staff across our university community. The People and Planet league has focused minds on who really walks their talk on sustainability.”

(Dr Alex Ryan, Director of Sustainability)

We see sustainability as an integral part of our mission, to prepare our students well for the world they will inherit. The fact that it is now our students and young people across the country who see the urgency of this agenda, and who are leading campaigning for radical change, only serves to reinforce our commitment.”

(Vice Chancellor, Stephen Marston)
