ACADEMIC PRACTICE

The idea of a university is that it acts as a beacon for society through education and research, building on foundational knowledge but also breaking new ground. In a rapidly changing world facing complex sustainability challenges, this role in supporting dynamic change through learning and inquiry is critical.

Sustainability prompts us to rethink curriculum priorities and develop more socially-relevant, globally-conscious, futures-oriented learning experiences – known as Education for Sustainability. We also seek to support sustainability through research that is boundary-crossing, participatory and impactful.

We view this as the future direction for academic practice – and we have an international reputation for our work, which means more than just teaching about sustainability issues, but developing the ability of people to respond effectively to them and drive change across sectors and professions.
