UN publication features for sustainable fashion collaboration with Cheltenham Education Partnership

The University’s Thread Counts initiative, led by the Fashion Design course team, has been chosen as one of 12 projects selected from the award winning initiatives of the past 5 years across the global network of UN University Regional Centres of Expertise, in a new publication recently released to celebrate RCE contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Thread Counts started in 2017 with a launch event, display of student work and creative workshops, working with Product Design and several local partners. With the launch of Cheltenham Education Partnership in 2019 and growing momentum on sustainable fashion both in industry and with young consumers, it is now expanding its reach to local schools through collaboration with the CEP members.

Plans for new learning and training workshops that build capacity of pupils and teachers on circular economy and sustainable textiles were delayed by the coronavirus pandemic but are set to restart next academic year.
